New Smoothie Creations with my Vitamix!

PB052643

The holidays are over and I'm finally able to play with my new toy… a Vitamix! I love to start my days with a super healthy dose of fruit and vegetables, and a smoothie is the perfect way to do that. Here are some of my recent concoctions. The Vitamix allows endless possibilities!

I discuss specific ways some of these ingredients support detox in my WINTER DETOX, which is available now for purchase. Additionally, I've included the nutrient facts for each smoothie at the end of this post.

PINEAPPLE POMEGRANATE SMOOTHIE

PINEAPPLE POMEGRANATE SMOOTHIE

Pomegranates are mentioned about 30 times in the Bible and are typically eaten in Israel to celebrate Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year. Pomegranate juice has more antioxidants than red wine or green tea. The seeds have antimicrobial properties. Some studies have shown that the juice might slow the progression of prostate cancer, inhibit LDL oxidation, improve circulation and oxygen uptake, and even treat erectile disfunction.

PINEAPPLE POMEGRANATE SMOOTHIE

(Make in a Vitamix)

¾ cup pomegranate seeds (you can include some of the white pith)

¾ cup fresh pineapple chunks (include some of the core)

½” slice of fresh ginger root

½ frozen banana

½ cup water

1 scoop whey powder

1 scoop powdered greens (optional)

1 T. unsweetened cranberry juice concentrate

Stevia to taste

Ice cubes if desired

and…

PINEAPPLE MANGO SMOOTHIE

Pineapple, spedically the core, contains digestive enzymes that not only aid digestion but also have anti-inflammatory properties. Pineapple provides more protection from macular degeneration than carrots, and supports the immune system with high levels of vitamin C.

(Make in a Vitamix)

¾ cup fresh pineapple chunks (you can include the core)

½ cup frozen diced mango

1 cup water

½ frozen banana

1 carrot

2 scoops whey powder

And finally…

KIWI CELERY SMOOTHIE

Learn about the health benefits of kiwi in my Winter Detox. Celery is also packed with nutritional value. It is one of the best foods for lowering blood pressure, contains high levels of silicon (important for bone health), and is high in acetylenics, which have been shown in studies

to reduce the growth of cancer cells.

KIWI CELERY SMOOTHIE

2 small kiwis, peeled

2 stalks celery

1 apple

1 chunk fresh ginger

1 cup ice cold water (maybe even throw in a few ice cubes)

4-5 chunks of frozen banana (equivalent to a small banana)

¼ of a ripe avocado

1 scoop powdered greens

sprinkle with powdered ginger (optional)

There are some other blenders out there that will handle these ingredients fairly well, but you might need to cut them into smaller pieces. If you have a blender that works well, let me know what kind it is so I can recommend it. But, everyone seems to agree that the Vitamix is the best!
